I own a tidy 1993 mx5 which is structually sound but recent had some welding for the mot.

Anyway I have a crazy idea to use it through winter and in process of wax oiling. Am I mad, I have two others cars that could be used over winter period, am I best to garage it and stop it rusting to bits or man up and go topless in the snow?

Winter tyres and keep the roof off. You will be sideways a lot but it will manage.

Sorry to jump in, when you say don't use Waxoil, would you recommend this stuff?

I use mine all year round. Had to get pushed up a hill in the snow though :-)

It was my only driver for 8 out of the 12 years I owned mine so every winter in the Uk and Germany, Holland etc..
Great car for winter driving especially with roof down, just watch the icey bits.
But you gotta wear one of these (see pix) otherwise your feet will roast and your head will freeze.
It is also good for protecting you from hearing people saying "is he mad?"
I loved driving to work with the roof down very invigorating

My other half has a mk3 MX-5 and we're about to put winter tyres on it, but what's this about driving around with the roof off? It's the fabric roof if that makes a difference. Or are folks talking about the bolt-on hardtop?

Last winter killed mine with tin worm.

It ran great, long trips from Oxford to Crew, I was turning up for work in the 5 where other people who lived closer were snowed in.

But the salt killed it......its still sorn sat in my garage waiting for me to get a huge amount of welding done.
