Bugger, wrote off the Eunos, trying to settle with insurance
Discussion
Destroyed my baby.
Well, I say destroyed, its a cat C, but it wouldn't take much to put back on the road. (front end body panels, satin black rattlecan sprayjob).
Insurance assessor has valued it at a grand, which I've laughed at. Thing is, not sure how much its worth. Looking in the ads, there's such variation in mode/mileage/condition/price, its hard to figure out.
For instance, is a quality set of alloys worth about a tr lane?!
I reckon £1800 is a fair starting point:
1990 Mariner Blue Eunos
100k miles
Nice Rota Grid wheels with good tyres, couple of thousand miles on them
Stainless dual exit exhaust
Zero (do mean zero) rust
Perfect interior, no defects.
Small amp and cabling to run an Android phone for calls/music/nav
Garage vary lip, no cracks
Couple of small patches of laquer peel
Beautifully running engine and box, no tappet noise, smooth and precise shift
All belts/fluids/filters changed
Looking around, it seems to be sure of getting a car in as good fundamental condition, with a few good quality modifications as a perfect starting point for a serious car in the 3-4k bracket (supercharger/coilovers etc.), it wouldn't come particularly cheap?
What do you think?
Feel free to point me in the direction of ads that you think match my car pre crash. Not fussed how much cash I get, as long as I get enough to buy another one just as good. (although if there's a nice one you know of going a bit cheaper than normal, that'll cut down my loss paying the excess!)

Love the car.
Thing is, I could repair it to get it back on the road, but it'd be secondhand, mismatched panels, and would be recorded cat C.
I bought it as a car I could really enjoy, whilst gradually improving it over time. A respray was on the cards for a couple of years time.
I couldn't repair it as was for the value of the car.
So I think it would be reasonable to recieve market value of the car, minus scrap value. I could then repair it to an acceptable temporary standard, then put my own cash in to supercharge and full respray.

Unfortunately modifications don't really add to the value of the car, they just make it easier to sell and/or more desirable. I say unfortunately as my own car is very modified and I know that should the worst happen it will be worth no more than any unmodified car of the same age/miles/condition.

I paid £675 for a similar car albeit with standard wheels.
Really? Where?Cause I can't find anything decent even close to that price.
Looking on the classifieds there are a couple at around £1300-£1400, but they have either had sills replaced or are going to need it in a year or two.
There's also a couple that are the 'next stage' I'd planned with my car - they're sitting at £2200-£2500.
I think you'd be lucky to value it at £1800 unfortunately. Mine cost that with 60k miles on, mint condition everywhere, S-special spec, with a set of good alloys and a spare set of wheels.
Also, seeing as it's winter time the market value is probably a bit less than spring/summer.
ETA: out of curiosity how did you damage it?

Went into (well, a bit under) the back of a Mazda campervan at a junction. Entirely my fault, relying on local knowledge and trying to look in two directions at once. Zero damage to the other car. Hit at under 5mph.
Been classified a cat C as it needs the slam panel straightening.
Work has been stupidly busy, so not had a chance to email the insurance person some indicative adverts. Not really worried how much I get, as long as I can get one as nice (once I put in the excess value on top).
I just remember how many we looked at before buying this one.
Gonna try and buy it back, to either use as a basic trackday car, or put back on the road. I'm currently leaning towards the former, once I've bought a replacement road car.
Cheers for the help guys, feel free to post up (or pm) adverts for similar cars.
