NA back box urgently needed! E.Yorks
Discussion
Just driven home tonight and lost a lot of power going up a steep hill, it being a dangerous hill and not practical to stop I carried on going believing it was almost certainly one of the new HT leads I fitted the other day that had popped off the coil.........
Nearly at the top it lost even more power followed a second later by what's only described as a loud explosion, at this point I was certain it had blown a spark plug out...
However luckily it was the rear box that had blocked up and then exploded, I found a bit of exhaust packing a few weeks back it seems it's been breaking down a while and finally bunged the tailpipe up and built up pressure till it went boom.
The rear box is quite funny to look at, it's like a comic book explosion has occurred.
However this now leaves me with a very loud car over xmas and no hope of getting an exhaust delivered. Does anyone vaguely local have an NA back box (1.8 if it makes a difference) that they have maybe changed for a sports exhaust, long term I will probably be fitting a nice exhaust anyway so doesn't matter if it's knacked as long as it's intact.
I wouldn't turn down a nice stainless exhaust and cut out the middle man either.
Obviously willing to pay!

Is it the same as a NB? I have a stainless back box I took off my 1998 1.8 RS. It's done few miles and has a nice burble at idle. It's virtually new condition apart from some staining that would polish out. It's a straight fit using the standard Mazda fittings but I've no idea if it'll fit a Mk1. I'm in NE Lincs a few miles east of Louth. If it's any good pm me.
I suspect it probably will be about the same!
I don't seem to be able to PM you, could you post up a picture of it, particularly the flange where it mounts to the middle pipe then I can compare it to mine, or if you want to PM me a mobile number and we can get a mobile phone photo across.
Price dependant I'll have that off you if it will fit or can be made to fit.

Worse still just been under it (it went in the dark and pissing rain last night so once I saw what had happened and it wasn't dangerous just continued) and it's a one piece exhaust to the cat.
Fantastic.
If anyone does know someone with one you'd do me a fantastic favour pointing them to this thread!
