Cambelt change in the SW.
Discussion
Good morning all, I've just been reading the cambelt failure thread and it has reminded me I really ought to get the job done on the gf's 5.
Can anybody recommend to me an MX5 specialist in the South West? I'm in S Devon but will travel a bit for good quality workmanship. Although it can vary, what would be a likely price for this job if there were no complications?
While that work is being done what other parts should I consider getting replaced at the same time? The car is an '02 with under 50k miles.
Thanks
G

MX5 Parts do servicing and are based in Portsmouth. Other than that I don't know of any specialist in the South West.
When I had my Impreza and lived in Ottery St Mary, I used to take it to Tipton Garage in Tipton St John. They're familiar with Jap imports and also do a bit of motorsport stuff and I always had good service from them. Might be worth a try.

Cam belt on a MX5 is a DIYable job if you are at all handy with the spanners (plenty of good guides on the web). Also it is a non-interference engine, so if it breaks you shouldn't get any engine damage.
I seem to remember it is worth changing the water pump at the same time. The parts aren't expensive.

Thanks Skoff, I had considered doing it myself because I'm not completely inept but if I disable the GFs car I'll be in the dog house! Do the cam shafts have to be locked in place before removing the old belt to avoid wacky timing issues? Is there a tool for the job (don't say me...)?
If I do re-grow a pair and decide to do it I'll look for an online guide for the bits I need.
More recommendations welcome guys.
Anyone know anything about MX5 Heaven over towards Dorchester?
Cheers
