So, apparently I have a rather large one.

No - these aren't the words of my latest conquest, unfortunately, they relate to the cat on my lovely little Mk1 MX5.

The thing needs a new exhaust, but it seems I can't get hold of a direct replacement for the thing.

I've spoken with Mazda and there are 2 issues here 1) they want over £300 for the thing and 2) it isn't in stock, and they don't have a due date for this item either. GREAT!

Anyway, I've looked around a bit and am reluctant to buy a stainless steel exhaust as if on a long journey I'm not keen on a loud drone, especially as I tend to make quite a few 'phone calls in the car (on a hands free!!).

I've had a look at MX5 Parts and they seem to offer a direct replacement, but again, this isn't in stock and I bet won't be for a couple of weeks.

Thing is, I can't wait a couple of weeks!

Any suggestions from anyone?

It wasn't for an MX-5 but last time I needed a cat, I just popped down to the local exhaust fabricator and they took a few measurements and made one up for me the same day. I think it was about £150 - £200.

I'm sure there must be somewhere near to you that could do the same.

Just had a look at all the above, with no luck. Only place with anything seems to be the bay...and then it's very limited. The one kit I did find, I've tried calling the chap, but he's not answering. Doesn't fill will confidence!!

B&M don't seem to do exhausts - my cat is fine.

Unipart aren't answering their phones.

Any more for any more?!

Did you give Autolink & MX5 Heaven a call? I'm sure they will have something. Don't rely on their websites, they are breakers and the websites are never anywhere near up to date.

Stick a wanted post up on mx5nutz.com Or depending on the year of your mx5 run a silenced decat in place of the cat. These are availble in the 2 sizes that match the cat the mx5 / Eunos came with.

What year and engine size is you car?

And what length cat is it?

Ive a few different types from mk1's and mk2.5's here.

Can deliver them tommorow for next day if suitable for you.

Thanks for that.

I've got a late 1996 1.8 Mk1. I believe it has the 475mm Cat.

There is a chap who may have one who is going to give me a bell tomorrow morning.

If you have one in stock, please don't hesitate to drop me a PM.

Cheers thumbup
