Hi I have the tan interior with the speakers in the headrest. As on most the driver seat is naffed.
Can a passenger seat be "turned into" a drivers side by changing the mechs over? I have a upholsterer(sp) than can change the leather over but changing the parts would be easier(and cheaper) smile
Thanks

The bases are different. It is probably possible to swap sides but it would be easier to get the right seat or just get your seats recovered.

Cheers Lazza I think that's what I'm going to do.

Does the PM contain useful info that could be of assistance to all, do share?! biggrin

I'm in the same situation, I don't know if the OP is thinking the same as me but instead of swapping my own seats, I was considering keeping my own passenger seat which is fine, then buying a second passenger seat (as they're always in better condition) from a scrapper and trying to fit the leather to the frame of my own driver's seat if that would work.

Good secondhand tan leather drivers seats from breakers/scrappies are very hard to come by!

Basically, the seats bolt direct to the runners and the runners bolt to the floor. The passenger seat runners have a narrower track than the drivers side so it might be possible to fabricate something so you can fit the pax seat on the drivers side by fitting plates to go from the seat holes to the runners... The back adjuster would need to be swapped over though and I think the seats are slightly different shapes...

I am doing exactly as you have described. Basically I'm going to have 4 seats, 2 of each and end up with 1 driver 1 passenger using the best leather from all 4.

As for the PM, I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you. biggrin

P.S, keep an eye on my restoration thread. smile

I went with new covers from a guy on Ebay. Mariner blue and black leather facings, black vinyl backs about £250 IIRC. Fitted them myself saving ~£70 and since I live on a distant island it was the only real option. I was told I'd paid too much but I like them, so there.
