mx5 mk2 vinyl roof repair

The vinyl roof on my mk2 mx5 has split badly in two places, anyone else had this problem and found a good technique to patch the splits rather than replace the whole roof?

To be honest they are very tricky to repair without looking awful. It depends on where exactly it has split. If its down just behind the side windows, its do-able. Anywhere else and it will stand out like a dog's nuts.

Mine has started to split above the drivers and passenger side windows where it creases when it is folded down. I have got a small bit of silicon sealent on it to get me through the winter but I have a feeling that when it is used again, it wont be long before a new roof is required.
