hello,

i have to register a -97 mx5 in france. what do i need to change with the headlights...

in one forum someone said to get new lihgts like these, http://www.ilmotorsport.de/shop/article_detail.php...

and in another that i only need these, http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/advanced_search_result.p...

the difference in price and work is huge so would really need advice before i order anything.

thanks in advance.

Err it looks like the MX5 parts bit is for a Mk1 MX5 and the IL for a MK 2 - if the headlights pop up then its a Mk1.

I bought a UK Mk 1 MX-5 and registered it in France last year. I managed to get the garage selling it in the UK to put in the new LHD headlights and they said it was a very easy fit of just a straight replacement that they'd done in less than an hour.

The MX5 passed the control technique easily, but the 3 hour wait in the prefecture to get the thing registered was a pain (three counters, one to pre-check that you had the right papers, another to do the registration and a third to pay the fee). Take a good book with you. From memory cost about €2-300 plus €131 to Mazda for the certificat de conformite (they took about 3 weeks or so as well) plus the control technique fee. Still a lot cheaper than buying in France, a reasonable LHD mk 1 is at least €5000.
