Hi,

Stupid question, but I need to see if I'm right. All S-VT's had stiffened suspension didn't they and a limited slip diff?
Do you know if they changed the set up at any point?

I drove a 53 plate, but it didn't feel as stiff as my mums 05 plate. It didn't feel as if it would handle as well as hers, but it was definitely an S-VT. Does anyone know any reason why it was different? Could it just be because it's an older car and some things need tightening up maybe?

Thanks
Annie

Hi, I stand to be corrected but I believe not all S-VTs had the Bilstein dampers fitted. Our's have them and it's firm but not silly. They are also bright yellow so, fairly easy to spot.

"Sport" suspension was an option. I don't think all were yellow though...

Ahh I see, thank you. I've had a look and the Bilstein Dampers look fairly reasonably priced, so I'll get some. Does anyone know what other bits may need changing, e.g. Shocks etc? I want to get it as close to the stiffness that my mums has as I can. (I've bought the MX-5 in question)

I don't want to get a whole new £2000 worth of suspension system though, just tweak some bits!

I'd suggest taking a quick peek to see if your stabiliser bar endlinks are still connected on all four corners. One of my fronts popped off at autosolo last weekend and it wasn't immediately obvious except for a whole lot of inside wheelspin on certain corners.

I'm sure you can find used Bilsteins for a good price, but consider going with coilovers so you get some ability to adjust damping and ride height. I think there's a deal on Meister R over at MX5Nutz.
