Hi all. I want to replace the standard mk2.5 stereo with an aftermarket single din stereo, but tbh I really don't know what parts I need (apart from the stereo obviously!).
I also wouldn't mind a cubby hole to put my phone/ipod in under the stereo.

Can someone give me a hand?

Have a look on the mx5 parts website. My Euphonic has a single din unit and tray.

yer i have had a look. they do have a tray, but still have no idea what parts I need. it is gonna sound stupid, but what does the new stereo rest on considering it will only take up half the space?

The stereo will be mounted in a cage which will come with the stereo. The cage will be mounted in the top half of the gap left by the old stereo and the cubby will sit in the bottom half. The cage will sit on the cubby. The stereo should have a bolt with a rubber cap sticking out the back of it which will locate into a hole in the back of the stereo aperture which will take the rest of the weight of it.

Don't bother with the bar bracket on mx5 parts. And FYI I mounted my HU on bottom, cubby on top. HU was more stable in this position, and the ridge on the cubby on the bottom, so stuff doesn't slide out.

Disconnect battery neg terminal before poking around with stereo clips trying to remove the stock HU, I didn't and managed to blow the "room" fuse...bit of a pain.

I did the same thing very recently. See this thread:

Has links to the bits I bought. Was a piece of cake to do.
