Finally, after two years and 31000 miles something more than a blown light bulb has gone wrong with my 51 plate Mk 2.5.

Not sure if this is a well known issue but I'll run through it anyway. Half filled the car on Tuesday and then did about 50 miles in sunshine and the gauge didn't move.
Hmmmm....I thought that doesn't seem right. So I filled it to the brim on Wednesday and have now done another 50 miles and it hasn't moved from "F". Helpfully I zeroed the trip meter so I'll know when its getting close to empty. (270 miles.) but it would be nice to know whats going on.

Errr...help!

It sounds like the float gauge that sits in the tank is stuck/sticking.

I'm not sure where it's located but I'm sure someone will be along in 3...2...

I think you can gain access to it through the rear shelf, remove the shelf carpet and you should see the cover.

If I brim my tank I have to drive over 50 miles before the gauge starts to move from the (above) full mark. When it was stock it was nearer 70 miles then it would seem to jump down to just above 3/4.

Incredibly it now appears to have fixed itself. After 150 miles its showing half a tank which is about right for my car/driving. I'll still get it investigated though.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.
