Hey all,

What are the running costs like on an MX5 such as this one: http://pistonheads.com/sales/3905109.htm

What is the fuel economy like? I tend to cruise into work at 65mph ish

I'm kinda tempted by an MX5 but don't want something horribly expensive to run. Also reliability is a HUGE must.. what are they like in terms of it?

Thanks,

Matt

Fuel is the major cost, low 30's is about all you will manage.

Other than that they are cheap as chips to run, thats why Im looking for another. In fach i might have a look at the one in your link!

I've owned mine for 18 years, just needed standard service items replaced. Car has been modified over the years but anything original still works fine.

Wow, maybe I should have kept my old one for a couple of months and sold it for a few hundred quid more!

In my 1.8 cruising at 65ish I could get 36/37mpg max, so maybe a couple higher from the 1.6, but you will get low 30's overall mixed driving.

Mines sees very few motorway/bypass miles and I struggle to get higher than 25mpg for my 1.6, I just had a look at the running costs from my profile and am pleasently surprised!
