How old do MX5's have to be before it qualifies for classic insurance?

10-15-20 year old?

Could you get an early mk2 and insure it under classic insurance?

Cheers.

flux and most others say up to 1996 to qualify for classic status, most will do a second car policy at nearly the classic rate but shop around a lot.
My renewal ranged from £750 to £199.

I have had my 2001 on a classic car insurance in the past. Can't be bothered with that now though as it's more trouble than it's worth and doesn't discount the cost that much anyway.

Just took out mine (2000 V reg) with R H insurance, using a classic policy via Equity Red Star.

3k miles per year, european cover, breakdown cover and business use.

£200.42

(inludes suspension changes, roll bar and stainless back box)

It does take into account it is a 3rd car and garaged every night.
Last year it was £240 with Haggerty on a classic policy.

I could have taken it on a "traditional" policy at around £300 per year and built up NCB, but can't really see the point.
If I stack it, it will inevitablly be on a track day, and I'll not be covered anyway.

I've had the car 12 months and a week. Total mileage in the last year has been 1k. 250 of them have been round Snetterton!

However, with business use this year I will probably use it on sunnier days for the commute, just like I have today.
I also find it a whole load more fun driving it, now I've got the suspension sorted too.

Just paid £104 for my 1991 Eunos on a classic policy with Performance Direct. Limited to 1500 miles. Bargain really .... but currently trying to sell. I just dont use it at all!

Mine's a 1990 Eunos and was £142 for the year with Footman James. That includes 3000 miles and it has to be garaged nightly.

Pretty happy with that tbh!

I have a co. car so would be looking to insure one with no NCB. What sort of quotes are people seeing in these circumstances?

In my case, because it's insured under a classic policy, NCB isn't counted.

Bridle, Footman James and Adrian Flux worked out a great deal for me for insurance on my '72 MGBGT; ending up going with Bridle as they were a little cheaper than the others and great service- did it all over the phone whilst I waited -Below £100 with a few added benefits. Still can't quite believe the price...

I insured my recently purchased Eunos with Footman James yesterday. Same price as elsewhere until I came to add my g/f, who is under 30; they wanted an astonishing £0.00 to include her on the policy, whereas others declined to quote. It's a 1993 car and they were happy to stick it on a classic policy; I suspect they'd do so for any mk1 MX5.

15% discount on the insurance for joining the MX5 Owners' Club too.
