Morning all,

Just had the wife phone saying that she had problems putting the car into gear this morning. She couldnt select reverse unless she turned it off, put it into reverse and then turned it back on again. So she made it to the end of the street but then couldn't select 1st or 2nd and only had 3rd and 4th. So she nursed it home and has taken my car to work.

Has this happened to anyone else before? It was fine at the weekend as we did over a hundred miles and I was driving and there was nothing at all wrong.

Car is an N reg mk1 UK model

Thanks.

99% of the time it's a failed slave cylinder, pumping the pedal may work very short term, but it's a £10-£15 part and takes 30 minutes to fit.

Awesome, thanks alot. Does it fail just like that?

Mx5 parts have the part I would assume?

Yes! Mine failed in the middle of a busy junction in a busy City Centre at rush hour. Pumping the pedal can do enough to get you home.

If it's not been changed in a while, and you want to change it yourself, I'd recommend some shock/unlock spray or penetrating fluid, the location of it means the mounting bolts are very exposed and are probably stuck fast - mine was a bugger to get off. Once the bolts are loose it's really quite simple to change.

Yep thats the slave cylinder. As has been previously said it's a £10 or £15 part that's easily fitted. You will need to bleed the clutch again but should be easy enough to do. I actually got a garage to do mine as I didn't have space to do it at home. I was charged £20.

Rounded the little 10mm but so it will have to go to the garage on Monday. Balls.

Hi Jason,

Just a quick note. When i first got my eunos i thought the slave cylinder had failed. Got spare part and eventually found the clutch fluid just needed topping up. 3 years later i still have the slave cylinder in my toolbox!

Cheers Mike, definitely the slave cylinder in my car, had the soft clutch pedal and I did try at first to top up the brake fluid but I just had to bleed it all when I TRIED to replace the slave cylinder. Cheers all the same though.

Anyone know where else I could find one of these?

http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/copper-clutch-pipe-mazda...

Only £15 and then I don't have to worry about trying to get the car towed to a garage, but they are closed until wednesday and have none in stock either frown

Am I just as well joining nutz or do you need some minimum posts before you can post for wanted items?
