Tyre/road noise?

The MX5 is much more refined than my elise, but I'm aware of a drone which sounds like road/tyre noise. Is that normal, or do I need to check bearings etc?

Its certainly sounds more like tyre noise than anything mechanical.

Nope not normal, I also had an elise, Mx5s are much quieter. I would check bearings and make sure your tyres arn't 50p shaped, both would cause a drone.

Its definately quieter then my elise, it just dosent sound as quite as my mondeo. The problem is I've never owned a mainstream soft top, so I don't know how much noise you normaly get.

My wife hasn't noticed it, so its not that bad.

It will be noisier than a "normal" car like a Mondeo. They are far from quiet.
There is little sound proofing and the hood drain tubes channel noise from the gearbox, dif & tyres into the cabin directly behind your head. They usually seem quieter with the top down because of this.

My mk 3 is as quiet if not quieter than the pile of $%&@ Y reg' Swift I had beforehand while back at Uni. It only really gets noisier because of the wind at speed

Mk3 is a fair bit more refined than previous models.

Good point. I'll try it with the roof down.
