Bigger steering wheel in Mk 2?

Drove my brother's Mk2.5 this weekend. I'm 6'2 and never had a problem in my Mk1 but in the 2.5 there just wasn't enough room between the steering wheel and my (ample) legs. Presumably the wheel is bigger due to the airbag? Were there any variations / options? I was quite keen on a 2.5 but don't think I could live with one if they are all like this.

think they are all the same size, I have a late mk1 which had the leather momo airbag wheel like the mk2. Just take it out & fit a steering boss/smaller wheel

Steering wheel is the same size. Mk2.5 seats are a fair bit bigger though so you would have been sitting at least 1" higher so that's where your leg space disapeared to.
