I took my hardtop off on Sunday. Really enjoying roof down motoring. What a great car the MX5 is! It makes the commute a bit more of an event. I felt a little bit self conscious. Do the drivers of much bigger, faster and more expensive machines know what they are missing I wonder?!

Took mine off in February, my previous 5 that I used as daily driver for 100 Miles a day commute for 4 years did not have a hard top.

The only acceptable answer to this is "Since Saturday", seriously - a hardtop in June?!?

What's a hard top wink
Exactly.

I don't buy into the whole, almost bullying attitude of owners that the 'top must be down at all times.' But a few weeks ago when we actually had a week of sun, I saw a couple of 5's being driven around with the hard tops on... mad!

Roof down any weather ! I only had mine for a few weeks the first few times I was a bit self conscious, but one I had my first real hoon it all clicked, roof down = more fun, you don't get the best out of the car until the roof is down !!

I put the hardtop back on today as the weather looks as if it will be grim for a bit. My soft top is really tatty and I don't want water to find its way anywhere it shouldn't be. I like the way the hard top looks. It has a better back window. Security is better. And the car doesn't shake as much on bad surfaces. I like having all the options! As I said, it is a brilliant car.

Hardtop been on mine for about 10 months now, TBH if there was an option between a 5 coupe (I know a few exist) or drop top I'd take the coupe. I turn lobster at the slightest hint of sun frown

I agree to some extent - something like a fastback!
I tan nicely but the top of my head gets burnt. Like Wayne Rooney's used to...

I did this too. Torrential rain and a crap soft-top (worn) and windows which don't stay right up!

PS I know a lady with a Mk2 which she has owned from new with a hardtop. It has never been removed. I wonder if she would swap her hood for mine?!

yes

I've even arrived home from a blatt looking like a snowman after it started snowing about 15 miles from home. I was still grinning though. biggrin
