Hi

Hopefully tomorrow im looking at buying a 1999 MK2 1.8 MX5, ive had a good look at it tonight and hopefully will get a test drive tomorrow.

The sills look good, new toyo tyres all round and no concerns from the outside ( its at a dealers and they were closed!)

What do i need to look out for?, its only done 32k with 11 Mazda stamps in the service book so sounds like its been well cared for?

Thanks

There's a buyer's guide at the top of this subsection.

Apart from rear sills rusting from the inside, you also need to look at the rear wheelarch lips and the bootlid around the rear number plate lamps.

offer them a low price.....they'll be desparate to shift it before summer(!) ends

have a look on here, fleabay and autotrader so you're well armed

the hardest thing tho is looking disinterested - car salesman can sniff an enthusiast a mile off

www.mx5nutz.com

lots of resource on there

be careful when on the nutz forum, you'll be wacking a dirty great big turbo, racing suspension and wide wheels on before you know it!!!

I'd say that is depressingly cheap.

A 99 Mk2 is a 13 year old car now. The Mk2 was face-lifted in 2001 and replaced with a new model in 2005. That new model was itself face-lifted and is due for another facelift that has just been announced. Mazda are already deep into development of the Mk4.
On top of that, the Mk2 isn't generally considered such a "classic" shape as the Mk1 and has a worse reputation for rust.
Realistically I reckon that makes the price about right.
