She let me down today
Discussion
Having spent a couple of hours carefully cleaning my MK1 last night removing all the road grime that has built up since the last wash she tahkned me this mornign by breaking down on the way to work!
Im pretty sure the wash and the breakdown are unrelated as I washed the car at my parents house and drove home (10 miles) last night. And I only used a bucked for the wash so I wasn't hosing all over the place.
Anyway this morning shortly after leaving home for work she cut out in a queue of cars up to a roundabout and wouldnt re-start despite readily turning over. Cue some hasty pushing into a bus stop to avoid traffic carnage. And thanks to the foreign student for helping with the push
Despite my best efforts she wouldn't re-start and there was no hint of her firing.
So I called the RAC and waited.
The RAC arrived reasonably qucikly and the chap tried a few bits and pieces but he couldn't get her going either and determined the fault was electrical - he reckons the injectors arent getting an electrical supply or somesuch and that its likely a fuse/ relay has gone.
So now she is sat at my local garage having been towed and im one bus ride and a couple of hours later sat at work hoping the fix is simple and the garage doesn't get oily fingers over my recently polished bodywork!

I feel your pain. Mine broke down in Le Mans while I was at the Classic two weekends ago. Needed a new coil pack (400 Euros, well over priced). I had to leave her there and then go back on Monday to pick her up. A coolant pipe then burst while driving to Roscoff, fortunately when I was nearly there, so managed to let her cool down and then get her onto the ferry. Got the RAC to meet me in Plymouth, they made a temporary repair, enough to get me home. Part of the fun in owning an older car I suppose.

They suspect it may be the Crank Sensor whatever that is but they need an auto-electrician to decipher the Japanese codes...
Good luck - that's utter rubbish. You can do it yourself with a paperclip, a pen and pad, and www.miata.net. No link I'm afraid as I'm on a phone but if you search you'll find it. Bridge Grnd and ten in diagnostic box under bonnet, behind LCD headlamp. Codes wil flash on the dash. Use the website / Internet to decipher them - there numbers, not cryptic Japanese clues!
In fairness im not impressed with the service so far - its still in there and at the last update I had from them on Monday they were waiting for a wiring diagram. Honestly.
On monday they said she'd be fixed today so i'll update later.
As an aside;
Since Friday i've had two hire cars the first was a 2012 Seat Leon Diesel (1.6) which was actually very nice and had a good turn of pace for a car with "eco" written on the back.
Second (and current) hire car is a 2012 Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 Petrol which having driven 60 miles of mixed A&B roads this morning is complete and utter s

happened to me a couple of months ago. turned out to be the camshaft angle sensor. sends the electrics to the spark plugs.
To be honest I agree with you on this as its been pissing oil from the seal for about a year now (pretty much since I replaced it
) so it makes sense that the unit itself has succumb to my "it'll be fine" approach. I think when they say crank sensor they may mean the CAS - Out of interest how much was your CAS repair so I can benchmark against it?
Oh and it's still not fixed, they've now ordered the part and its due to arrive on Friday, I couldn't be less impressed. If its the wrong part i'll be getting them to take it out, put it back to how it was and organising a tow to Autolink (where i should have had her towed in the fist place)!

about £120 i think. i mean put it this way i broke down at around 930am, aa was there at about 10am i was at autolink by 1130am and the car was fixed and i drove off at 130pm. this garage you are using is taking the piss!

Just for clarity, that's not what the CAS does. The CAS send pulses relating to the position of the crank and the cam to the ECU.
The ECU deciphers this and sends the appropriate signals at the appropriate time to the injectors and coils when they need to be fired.

Cam position sensor and coil pack were buggered on mine when I had an identical sounded problem.
It would be unusual for both to die at the same time. More likely that the coil pack was changed and that didn't fix it so the CAS was changed as well and that did. Not saying that both weren't buggered, just that it's unusual.Gassing Station | Mazda MX5/Roadster/Miata | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
