Headlights and Wipers

It's a strange one.
When ignition on and switch on headlights the wipers have started coming on, when you switch the lights off the wipers return to the parked position.
Had the column shroud off yesterday and found nothing that looked out of the ordinary, thought it might be water getting into somewhere as I washed the car at the weekend but can't find anywhere, have checked the earths under the bonnet and all seems ok.
Any ideas or is the car possessed?
It's a UK MK1 if that helps.
