mx 5 import - what is best insurance for 56 year old
Discussion
Hi,I have bought a 1996 mx5 import and am shocked at quotes for insurance for such an old `common` car, just because it was imported - the car is not worth much, plus spares are mostly same as local model - so why the high insurance?
Has anyone got info on whom to go to or what to do to obtain better value,
I`m 56 years old, have 8 years no claim bonus, have 4 cars - one of them a kit car - insurance R110 a year - also ride motorcycle - no problem with insurance there...
Thanks,
Cheers,
Jacques.

Hi, I'm 50 and have a Mk1 Eunos import, best quote was from REIS, about £300 ish I think, and that was on a new policy without a no-claims bonus. Mileage limited to 5k per year but can extend to 7k for an additional £30.

Dom
Thanks Dom, shall give them a quote tomorrow.....Regards,

Lancaster were offering me £180 (and I'm nowhere near my fifties!) on 3,000 miles per year.
They didn't seem bothered about it being an import or that they didn't have the precise model spec on file, but they *were* bothered that a previous owner had added a rollbar at which point they refused to offer a quote.
All very pleasant. We even debated the practicalities of removing the bar over a couple of days.
Wound up with Flux as I'm keeping the bar for the time being. Reis were £50 more expensive, although I may go with them next year as their opening gambit of "how many track days do you want covered?" was a refreshing change.
