Hi

I guess this has been asked a million times but I am using my phone and can't search the threads properly so sorry.

Basically I am going to see a 1992 Eunos Roadster tomorrow which has done 69k apparently it is in excellent condition and is taxed and tested but i would just like some advice on what to look out for when i go.

Particularly concerned about rust, are there common places it will go and how can I check it? I will take a magnet and a torch.

Cheers

Yep, very helpful sticky.

Rust is the main issue.

Yeah so I see, quite concerned. How do I check for rust though? Magnet and a screwdriver I guess!

hehe

Is the screwdriver for poking the bodywork with? I wouldn't be happy with someone doing that to my car, even if it wasn't rusty!

Tapping with finger-nails and listening is about as good as you will get when it comes to detecting rust in the sills. Unfortunately they rust from the inside out so whatever you do to detect it you will only be looking for tell-tail signs that it is starting to break through. The rear arches are a bit easier as you do get bubbling quite early on and arch rust isn't an MoT fail so is less urgent anyway.

I think of it like science theory - i.e. absence of proof isn't proof of absence.

It was lovely. Collecting tomorrow subject to insurance. Will start a new thread to show off.

Thanks for all the replies, even the sarcastic ones!
