My seals on my mk1 Had been cut and stuffed with foam by a previous owner (to counteract the sagging of age I pressume?) They weren't sealed afterwards so the, uh, seals would fill up with water and then leak out. I sealed these up with some wetsuit repair glue, but also had to make sure the metal runners on the roof that the seals slide into were sealed also. These metal runners have a foam strip underneath that had perished and let water in on mine. I used gutter sealant to re-attach these and it worked well.

Look at the top corner of the windscreen surround, around where the water comes in. There will be a rubber cup at the top of the door seal. The seal itself is hollow to allow water caught in the cup to run down to the top of the sill.
Aha, THAT bit!Apologies for both the slowness of my uptake and response!
Yeah, they're totally clear - the whole car is immaculate, just this one thing is bugging me.
