Got 2 sets of rims for my Mk1, 15x5.5 & 15x6.5

The 5.5's were going to be the everyday road set & the 6.5's the track set.

My thoughts were to put 195/50/15's on both sets, however I want to make sure that that is the right decision & I am not compromising the geo set-up (geo to be done after wheel decision made) & not stretching them either.

I also want to be able to interchange wheels & swap worn tyres to another set of 15's that I'm gonna get for drift / messing about airfield days etc.

Therefore question is are 195/50/15s correct for both these rims sizes ?

Thoughts were Federal 595 RSRs or R888's for track set (allowing for a wet track margin) & Toyo T1R's or similar for road set ?

Your thoughts would be appreociated

195/50/15 are fine for both sizes. The offset is based on an offset from the centre of the wheel so the affect on geo will be minimal.
When you have the geo done, have the road wheels & tyres fitted. It's much more important for road wheels to be just right so you get optimal tyre wear. The track wheels & tyres will be close enough that it makes no noticable difference and tyre wear isn't as much of an issue (i.e. they are going to wear out quickly).

I'm currently using Toyo T1R as my road tyres and Yoko A048 as my track tyres.
On my Mrs Mini I fitted some Hankook V12 Evo and I've been really impressed with them so I might give them a go on my '5. I've never seen anyone reporting them on an MX5 so that will be an interesting test.
My Yokos came from a guy who races Elises. The S1 Elise use 195/50/15 on the front and the rears wear a lot quicker than the fronts as they usually replace in full sets it's sometimes possible to find a part-worn bargain pair or full set wink

Yeah I looked at those Hankook V12's also amongst others, they look alright, bit more money that the T1R's, but might be worth a go.

Cheers Lazza,
