Hello just bought a lovley phoenix and wonder if there is any way to prevent general corroding to the underside of vehicle, is it a case of going to a specialist where they spray the underside in waxoil etc? Or is it a case of doing yourself?

Im based near heathrow

Thank you in advance

I just did it myself on the wifes mk1.

If your not fussy or have plenty of time i would say do it yourself as well. The mx5 is off the road over winter, all jacked up, wheels and suspension off too though so it did make it A LOT easier. Also our mk1 isn't going to win any show and shine awards so i'm not the fussiest person when it comes to the car but it still took me half a day with the wire brush to remove any loose stuff then another half day going over it with underseal. I then left it for a week as it does take around 48 hours to dry properly. Happy with it now though and it looks a lot better in the arches and underneath.

You can pay a garage to do it but they might not do the most thorough job. Theres a thread called 'rustproof your roadster' pinned to the top of this forum, use that. It shows you how to get into the sills which is where mx5's rust the most.
