I may need an exhaust for my 2002 1.8i Phoenix, rather than buying an uninformed purchase i womder what make or style would be the best replacment.........i don't mind it increasing power or sounding better?

Would this be the case for an air filter as well? For more power and better sounding?

Thank you in advance

Justin

You might make it sound better by swapping the intake & exhaust but don't expect any more power.
There are loads of both to choose from.

I've got an mx5parts stainless steel cat back. Sounds quite nice when you boot it and it seems quite good quality (its a couple of years old and is still pretty shiny!). They are also cheaper than the OEM exhaust.

All depends what you are after. Air-filters are a very easy diy job. I'd do exhausts myself too but most exhaust places would change them for a small fee which is a lot easier (you can leave them to worry about the inevitable broken studs).
Something like a K&N Typhoon probably sounds about as good as you'll get. The Racing Beat High Flow version is supposed to give the best performance improvement but isn't cheap and we are still only talking about a couple of hp.
As for exhausts, there's MX5 Parts, Mongoose, Racing Beat, FM, Borla, Scorpion etc. loads to choose from. Better to hear a few cars and go for one you like the sound of.
