Hi all.

I want to raise the rev limit of my UKDM 10AE to 7,500 rpm or so, but don't want to fit an aftermarket ECU for various reasons. I know about the crystal mod, but this is a bit of a bodge and I'd rather do it properly, so I'm thinking a JDM spec Mk 2 (RS? 10AE?) ECU will plug straight into my 10AE and raise the rev limit to the JDM's 7,500 rpm (or so).

Is that too simplistic (ignoring the difficulty or locating the right ECU), or do I need to find an ECU that has the same options as my 10AE (i.e. no aircon, same LSD ratio, heated seats, etc.)?

Secondly, if it will work, can anyone suggest the code of an ECU that will work - mine is BP5Z, which I believe allows for the more aggressive BP5 inlet camshaft profile?

I thought the 10AE already had a 7500rpm rev limit.
Anyway, why do you want it? Have you done any mods to your engine to make it make more power up there? As standard the power is dropping off after about 6k and it's not worth going much over about 6500 anyway.

Nope, UKDM 10AE definitely has the lower rev limit.

I'm hoping to supercharge (coldside MP62) in the next few weeks, but mainly it's for driveability - I like driving high revving engines. smile

In that case you are much better off with a standalone ecu. You'll want at least a piggy-back for fuel & timing so a MS would fit the bill.

The Mk2 1.8 redlines at 7250. That's a whole load of work to go up 250rpm. You might find it easier to source a diff with a different ratio.

From memory it redlines at 7,250 rpm, but the limiter is closer to 7,000 rpm?
