Hello

Like many mk1's my drivers seat has seen better days. I have spotted some replacements on ebay. Is it possible to fit a passenger seat where the driver seat is? Could easily swap the seat belt clip to the other side or are there other pitfalls ahead.

Has anyone ever tried this?

Apart from the adjusters the runner frames are different and offset in opposite directions.

Nope. The passenger side runners are narrower (i.e. closer together) than the drivers side. The seat back is also subtly different but probably not by enough to make much of a difference.

The runners on the drivers side are wider than on the passenger seat so if you were going to fit a passenger seat to a drivers side then there would be nothing to drill into. You might be able to make up a couple of plates to attach to the base of the seat that you could attach the runners to but it's a lot of work to fit an MX5 passenger seat in. You'd be better off putting something else in there if you were going to fabricate something, especially as Mk1 seats are a bit pants anyway. Another alternative is getting your seats recovered.
