Really low MPG
Discussion
I have a mk2.5 mx5 which has treated me really well in the last year and half that i've owned up until i filled up yesterday and totted up my mpg on fuelly. My mpg was just above 15 which is lower than when I took it on track!
I've done a bit of reading and the main culprits seem to be the lambda sensor or binding brakes. I have noticed over the past few months that sometimes when reversing the rear of the car makes a groaning noise as it first pulls off the drive, is this a symptom of binding brakes?
Are there any other things I can check first as brake callipers/lambda sensors seem quite expensive!

Could well be binding brakes. If they are that bad though it will be easy to tell. Go for a gentle drive and stop somewhere safe using as little brake as possible (none if you can). If one of the discs is getting hot then you have a binding brake.
Could be other things - thermostat stuck open (the heater would be poor if this was the case), ecu engine temp sensor, lambda sensor but start with the brakes.
