Well, I seem to have bought myself another mk1 MX5, well Eunos actually this time.

Collecting it on Friday

It's a black '93 S-Special that is potentially the holy grail in that it has never been welded & has all the original spot weld imprints around the arches etc. Original sills and clean underneath too.

Only 140,000kms from new and last owner had it for last 8 yrs.

It's coming on 14" Watanabes and has the yellow Billys front & rear.

12 months MOT too!

And the price of all this pint-sized fun?

£900

It is a project, as it needs the bumpers painting and other cosmetics, but I was more concerned with finding a non rusty one, after my experiences with my first UK 1.8iS, also known as 'The Colander'!!

Collected a s/h TR Lane bar last night so guess what I'll be doing this weekend?!

Pics on Friday!

Sounds awesome. 14 wats are the perfect wheels for a mk1. Especially the et 14.5 ones.

Well after stealing a few hours here and there in between family stuff (yeah, I know!), I'm slowly making progress.

Thus far:

- Fitted new lower front balljoint
- New front upper balljoint boot to o/s
- New trackrod ends to both sides
- Fitted s/h 1.8 caliper brackets
- New front 1.8 discs
- Refurbed front calipers
- Replaced gearshift turret seals - both were torn
- Removed front wheelarch liners and cleaned and painted front arches & wishbones etc

Still to do: lots!!

- Change g'box & diff oil
- Swap Clutch slave cylinder
- Bleed clutch & brakes
- Do the same to rear arches and suspension & brakes!

The more I get underneath it and clean away the muck, the more solid & rust free it appears to be, so at least I have a solid base to work on!!

Happy as a pig in the proverbial - had forgotten just how therapeutic dismantling, cleaning and improving is!!

OK, well as an update to this it's fair to say that progress has slowed, due to my wife not wanting to lose out in my affections to a little Japanese sports car rolleyes

So this weekend, I finally made a start on fitting the TR Lane rollbar and got as far as sitting the bar in the car, having removed trim and rear bulkhead pieces. Drilled a few small pilot holes apart from the ones that I need to borrow a 90 degree drill adapter for!

Stuck rear of car onto axle stands and removed rear plastic arch liners, to reveal... ...no nasty rusty surprises again! Wire brushed it all and gave it a coat of Smoothrite, but once again pleasantly surprised with how clean and tidy it is underneath, bar small areas of surface rust that have been treated and painted. All very solid.

Tried on my bargain set of 6.5" BBS RZ rims that will need fresh 195/50 rubber before they will fit properly under the arches, as the wkee Ditchfinders on there at present are 205/50 and would catch the arch under compression.

Plan is to get some track tyres for the 15s leaving the Wat 14s on road rubber, money permitting!
