Miss my old mk1, despite having paid over the odds (heart over head) and finding it rusting away under the clean looking sills. A friend of mine is into the drifting, I would like to do a few normal trackdays and possibly a few drift days in between. Was wondering if an mx5 would be able to do both without faffing about with welded diffs etc?

I'd say you at least need a LSD for drifting, otherwise you'll just be spinning up the inside wheel. Then you just need enough power to overcome the available grip, so thin, low grip tyres. Stick it on 4 space savers, wait for a rainy day and see if you can keep it in a straight line.

I drifted & tracked my torsen dif s/c 1.8, felt far nicer & controllable grip & drifts than the couple of viscous Mx5s inc a 1.6 s/c I owned & a 1.6 na that I also tracked & drifted.

I would have thought a welded dif would be fine & best for the drifty, but a nightmere for regular track days esp in the wet, but have never tried one.
