Hi all, recently bought my wife a MK3 2.0 with 65k on the clock, paid £5300 for it from a dealer which i was happy with. It was last serviced in Sept 2012 at 58k so now thinking of getting it serviced again.

Has anyone used Vospers of Exeter for there servicing needs? if so do they provide a good service and what are their prices like?

All in all we our very happy with the 5 and wish to keep the maintenance records up to date, would ideally like to use the main dealers if their prices are fair, or could anyone recommend a good independent in or around the Exeter area?

Here are a few pictures after a good clean last weekend.

This is very spooky - I have just booked my 56 plate Mk3 in to Vospers Exeter for a service next week.

I phoned up asking how much the service would cost - the answer was £245 (ish - can't remember the exact figure). They said this price was set centrally by Mazda and they couldn't negotiate on the price. I asked what that included and they said oil, oil filter and air filter and the usual checks. I think that price might have included brake fluid change as well, as they say it should be changed every 2 years. They said the oil and filter cost them £85 in parts - I said that you can buy the genuine parts on MX5parts for £50, and they didn't say much about that....

I asked about the "Value Service" that they advertise on the web www.vospers.com/servicing and they ummed and ahhed about this - suggesting it was not the same service. In the end, they agreed that it was an oil and oil filter and air filter service, and they would charge an extra £39.99 for a brake fluid change (total £158).

I asked them to confirm it would be included in the DSR online Digital Service Record, and they confirmed yes their "Value Service" would get registered on the DSR.

So, in summary, haggle and don't be fobbed off with the "centrally set Mazda prices". Still a lot of money for what is a basic fluids change - but it will be a main dealer (virtual) stamp in your book.

In answer to your question about quality, I'm not sure how good the actual work they do will be - but I would hope that it would be okay as they are main dealer. Vospers do have a good reputation.

p.s. love the car, very shiny! Are you based in Exeter too? I'll keep an eye out for it (although I am currently selling mine unfortunately)

pps just seen yours is a 2.0 litre (mine is the 1.8) so not sure if you would qualify for the "Value Service". That said, I don't see the difference so I'd still haggle v hard.

Live just outside of Exeter, a little village called Bradninch. Keep your eye out for me, always about in the Exeter area, will be in the MX-5 or my black Astra(see my other thread)

Let me know how you get on with Vospers, would be good to have some background info before i book mine in there.

We're local to you as we're in Crediton. My wife has had a MX5 mark 2, 10th anniversary model for three years. I used a local Crediton garage for the oil & filter changes, but had a major service and cambelt change done at Perry & Prowse on Marsh Barton. We used to take her Saab there and its the sort of garage where you can speak to the man doing the job rather than have to pass everything through a receptionist. I asked Perry & Prowse to change the brake fluid as its been in the car for three years, but they tested it and said that it was only 2% off spec so it didn't need changing.

We only used Vospers once when they replaced the radiator after the Crediton garage failed to stop the car overheating and I asked Vospers for a second opinion. They wanted to take the radiator out and get the core flushed by a specialist so I told them to replace it having researched on PH and MX5 Nutz.

I've nothing against Vospers, but they are inconvenient for us and we'll know that Perry & Prowse will do a good job. As the car is 14 years old now and MX5's are pretty straightforward beasties I didn't think it needed main dealer servicing

First impressions re flexibility and ease of use are not good...

There is no place to leave your car out of hours (they put all the barriers down) and so I've had to leave it in the park and ride car park risking a £50 fine.

Also there is nowhere to leave your keys (not even a postbox) so I've been picked up by a colleague and the wife has to drive out this morning with the spare keys.

So, wo betide anyone who works during their business hours as they can't actually leave their car there!

Just to follow up, service was all good and they spotted something minor which needs fixing (door strap) and they are processing it through the warranty.
