Hi, quick question. Did any of the import, or UK MK1 MX5's ever come with the indicator stalk on the left and the wipers on the right?

Or am I thinking of the MK2?

Thanks.

All Mk1 came with the indicator stalk on the left. Changed to the right on Mk2.

Is that a typo due to the early hour? Both my mk1s had the indicator on the right.

Yes it is, or more likely brain-fade. I got that the wrong way around.

So the next question is - has anyone switched the stalks over on a Mk1?
TBH I find it a right PIA jumping out of the tin-top into the Mazda and having to get my head around the different layout.
Any suggestions?
Cheers, Pewe.

Chaq'un a son goo GdayBruce VV but I've indicated once too often with the wipers.
Almost bought a Toyota Supra ages ago but decided against it as the indicator stalk was on the "wrong" side.
Must be deeply embedded in my psyche.

Each to their own but I rather enjoy having the indicator stalk on the right - it's where all British cars used to put it and it allows you to signal with one finger while changing gear. It's almost a point of honour not to get caught out when jumping into the Mazda after driving the regular car!

Thanks for the answers guys. It's the same as a Kia Carens that I drove a few years ago. Once your are used to it its okay.

I always find it quite natural and get used to it very quickly. I find it more of a problem when I go back to a car with the indicator on the left as it seems to take ages getting used to that again. I'd have the indicator on the right on all my cars if it was an option.

I agree, indicators on the right works better on RHD cars, but as more cars are made LHD it makes sense that most cars have them on the left so manufacturers don't need to retool.

I'm sure my very late UK model mk1 had the indicator on the left side - it was a '98 R plate 1.8.

My old '98 R plate Mk1 Berkeley (the very last of the Mk1s) had the indicator on the right.
