Best wheel size for mk2

Hi all

If I was to get a spare set of wheels to use on track, what is the best size to go for? Obviously the car comes with 15" and I've read some negative stuff about 17", but should I aim for 16" as ideal or stick with the 15's? I don't want to have extended wheel arches so also, what's the max width I can go for?

I have 17" road wheels on my Mk2.5 but have 15" as my track wheels. Track use burns tyres quickly and 15" is the cheapest option. 15" wheel/tyre package will also be lighter than bigger wheels which does help on track.
On the road, Mk2/2.5 is fine with 17".

Is there a list of 15" wheels that fit over the Mk 2.5 Sport/big brakes?

Or is it a case of suck it and see?

Most do. I haven't found any that don't yet as long as the offset is right i.e. somewhere around ET40.

15s are well suited, tyres are decently priced. win win

Less weight spinning makes for a far nicer steer too.

15 for go, 17 for show, 16 when you can't make your mind up.

Depends which Mk you are talking about. Mk2+ is very happy on 17s. I prefer the feel of my 17s to my very light 15s.

I ended up with a spare set of 15s, as they came to me cheap with good kumho's on, so will stick with these for the next year or so. Thanks for all replies. Andy
