I'm thinking of taking my series 1 mx5 on holiday this summer

please could you tell me how to disconnect the internal boot lid release mechanism

I am worried that some one could slit the roof and access the contents of the boot by using the remote release that is in the cubby hole between the driver and passenger

thank-you

I'm in the same position - was hoping it might be a bit more straightforward than that!

Does yours have a lock on it? Mine does, I tend to lock it and the glove box if I leave the roof down or somewhere unfamiliar.

That's complicated? okay...

You could lock the cubby box but if someone is going to slash your roof, then a plastic lock on a plastic cubby box isn't going to stop someone.

The covers are very flimsy plastic. If someone was eager enough to break into the car it would be nothing to them to rip it open to get to the release. I've done it myself before when I'd locked the keys in the boot and it doesn't even damage the box lid!

The mod linked by Richy is the best approach. Later cars (Mk2 onwards I think, might be Mk2.5) are already like this.

You're assuming a level of mechanical competence that I'm afraid I would fall far short of..;)
