Mx5 ND gearbox failure

Hi all,
My MX5 gearbix went today. Its a 2.0 2016 ND. Ive seen plenty of talk of this happening (although much more State side) but havent managed to find out what people actually do. Its not under warranty so has anyone had this issue? 2nd hand gearbox seema like a punt if this is something that aometimes happens. Can they be rebuilt? If so what were the costs involved?
Hoping somone has some unfortunate first hand experience.
