im in a lazy hehe so this is cut and pasted from moonrakers

Got bored and felt like fiddling ...... stop sniggering...

Took the interior mirror apart and fitted ambient lighting

just got to run me wires to a light source now.

mirror in bits and holes drilled

test fit

oooo niiiice

Leds glue gunned into position and glass fitted back in (bit of an arse twitcher the glass!)

from the rear ooer

mounted back in the car

And its not very good but a rough idea of what its for , centre console and gearstick area are now lit by a red glow

And this is where i got the idea , www.miata.net/garage/mirror_lights.html

i spose you could do the same with hyper bright leds and wire them to come on with the interior light .

Denny - cool idea yes

Only downside is that you're simply adding to my 'to do' list for when I come to see you hehe
