For me, if I was being optimistic, only about 1 in 5 MX5 owners give any acknowledgment if I wave or flash - is it just me or is this the general trend?

Yours, miffed of Cambridgeshire!

(I have a blue Mk 1 Eunos if this has anything to do with it...)

I don't bother any more grumpy

We get more waves when we're in the Landy.

None at the moment, but that is largely due to the fact that mine's been off the road since February frown

Before it came off the road, I did get one or two waves though..

When I got my first MX-5 (a Berkeley back in '98) I used to wave at every MX-5 I saw and probably 80% waved back.
As the Mk2 came in and became more popular it generally seemed to be bought by less enthusiastic people and the wave started to die. By about 2000 I would probably only get a wave back from about 10% so I gave up.

These days I'll only bother waving on a nice day when the sun is out and the top is down and I see someone else with the top down. Not that I get a wave back these days. But hey, it makes me feel good to try.

Agreed. I only get waves from Mk1 drivers, but even that is rare. Still going but on the cusp of giving up - get more waves from S2000 drivers (might actually be a w*nker sign...).

It's like: 'cheer up people and enjoy being owners of one of the best cars ever made'!

I live in Cambs and am also miffed at the lack of waves and flashes. I own a Berkeley...so please feel free to wave if you spot me biggrin

I get waved at all the time, its great. Might be due to the fact mine has a sticky plate and lip spoiler at front so looks a bit out of the ordinary, like I am an enthusiast, (which I am!)

I usually only instigate a wave to Mk1's or cars which look a bit modified as they are more likely to be driven by people who will wave in my experience.

Hmm, mine doesn't look modified (other than by the scrote who nicked my Eunos badge...)

Today I had a 100% wave rate - 2 out of 2 Mk 1 drivers (one silver one burgundy) - faith slightly restored but no score on non mk 1 MX5's!!

Not so many. I like to try popping my lights quickly up and down, and see if they acknowledge...most people seem not to. Usually I just wave or nod.

I will give an MX5 driver a wave back, whether in my Mk3 Roadster or the TVR.

Agree having the top off in extreme weather increases the chances of a wave. "Oh look there is someone else as mad as me - lets wave at him"!!

I always wave to people in classic sportscars like MGB/Midget, TR4/5 etc and they almost always wave back. I think it's an enthusiast thing. MX-5's used to be owned by enthusiasts but these days the enthusiasts are outnumbered by those who just want a cute convertible.

I wave and very rarely get a return. To be honest blokes tend to wave back but women don't, I put this down to male owners being more likely to be an enthusiast as they are willing to be called a hairdresser or gay to drive one whereas the women just want a cute little soft top.

I completely agree, I'm fed up of waving at women and getting the strangest look back! lol.
I've never been waved at or had my wave returned frown

100% failure rate today, on way to work, silver Mk3, lots of early flashing at him but no wave back. Think he could have been a zombie who'd stolen the real owners car.

Perhaps we should all move to one area of the country where we can all wave at each other as we pass every day.
