Please could someone tell me the boot dimensions of a mk1 mx5.

My girlfriend really wants one but need to be able to get a fold up couch in the boot which is 93x63x17cm. Is this doable??

Many thanks

Mark

cant measure it tonight but I would be v surprised if it were near big enough, even losing the spare tyre...

I don't know about that, it doesn't sound too big to me. I can get a golf bag full of clubs in the boot of my Mk2 and the Mk1 boot is deeper (as long as you dump the spare wheel)!

You can increase the space for nick-nacks markedly by removing the pressed panels at the front of the boot. There's a couple or three of them IIRC.

She NEEDS to be able to get a fold up couch in the boot?!?!?

Is this something that gets carried around to all venues, does she not trust that public seating will be comfortable enough?

Sorry, it just seems an odd notion!!

If it's only 17cm thick then I'm sure it would fit behind the passenger seat even if it didn't fit in the boot.

And yes, a full set of clubs in a full sized golf bag. The woods have to come out but all the irons stay in the bag.

Right, I've just been out with a tape measure and I'm afraid I don't think it'll fit.

At its widest point the aperture is 95cm (seal to seal) so there isn't a problem there. However it isn't that wide for very long (circa 30cm) so I doubt you'd be able to 'slide' the whole table into the widest section.

The problem is that the boot isn't deep enough. On the offside at its deepest point the boot may just cut it, but not for the full height of 17cm (sloping metalwork). However, on the nearside the boot is only 50cm deep. This could be extended a little bit by removing some trim pieces but I would suggest not enough.

I checked how much space is behind the passenger seat too, and it's less than 50cm wide so I'd imagine that's a no go too.

If the table is flexible then maybe a friendly owner/garage would let you fiddle around to see if it could be made to fit, otherwise I'm fairly sure it won't.

Sorry!

How about a boot rack? There are plenty available like this one. There are others that are cheaper and they often pop up on ebay and the like.

We thought about that but its not good for bad weather and she wants to be able to leave it in the car.

thought that might be the case.

making use of the depth is a sod - getting bulky items behind the seal at the rear of the boot isnt easy...

if you over stuff the boot and have to "force" it shut you also risk getting upwards dinks in the bootlid. The metal is about as tough as a biscuit tin...

Sorry Wigeon didnt see your post, thanks ever so much for measuring it. Thats a bugger! I dont suppose there is any other small sports that it will be able to fit in.

I'm loathed to suggest looking at an MGTF but they do have a surprisingly accomodating boot.

Also, how about the Fiat Barchetta? Very pretty although I'm not sure what the boot is like - worth a look though.

Also, on the side of dents from slamming things, there is a small 'outward' dent on one of my rear wings - when my Mum transported a frozen turkey in there.

It was her car back then, think she may have been cornering a little quickly...

Before you write it off completely, find someone local who will let you try to fit the couch in their boot. A local dealer with a Mk1 would be ideal. You never know, there might be a way!
