I spotted something I didn't recognise coming towards me on Somersham Road just after 10 this morning and wondered if it was anyone on here and what else had been done to the car.

I only recognised it as a MX-5 in the mirror after passing as the rear lights were standard.

The front was almost completely changed, with the headlamps dropped to bumper height and were round chrome ringed items, giving it the look of a sixties car.

Sorry to anyone that likes it, but to me that just looks wrong. The front end is way too droopy - looks like it's been left out in the sun too long. They'll have to try harder than that to improve the looks of a standard MX-5.

Thanks for the replies. Yes that's it, I didn't get much of a chance to look at it as it past, but what I saw I quite liked. It was in black so I think it did lose some of the detailing.

So how involved a conversion is it?

It might have been useful for me when I had a MX-5 as the times of day I normally drive, it spent most of the time with its lights up.

I saw an MX5 once that looked like it had a Griffith nose, wasn't the Retroforza kit.

I will get some pics of mine uploaded asap. Its very similar to Mikey P500's, except mine is black. Also mine has chrome surrounds on the front bumper indicators and the # plate is a Jap square one mounted on the lower bumper lip. Wheels are similar, being black proper 15" split-rims with chrome dish lip. Mine has the driver side roll bar sloping to the passenger side. It's a V-Spec black with tan leather interior. It also came over from Japan with run-about chrome door mirrors, KG works chrome rear view mirror, chrome 60's fuel cap, chrome eye-ball vents and KG works dash console /stereo plate. I have owned 3 MX-5's and this one is my favourite. I do like the retro styling and as stated, it is a marmite car. I get some funny looks when people see it to try and work out what it is. My other project car is a Dallara X1/9.
