Dale, you're my hero! That ranks up there with Hr. Stuck's commentary lap as "Best 'Ring Lap Video ever!"

Is there any point to this thread other than "Look at me!"?

I'm grateful for this thread Dale, good to see how the car is coming along. How much time did the turbo knock off? Some cracking driving ability!

Bluetone, are all the threads in Readers Cars attention seeking?

Look at my car?

Seriously, if pride is such a sin, I look forward to visiting you in your convent.

Turbo and HSDs have knocked 26 seconds(!) off. I think 75% of that is more power. I've never ran this car on semi-slicks, so I'll be interested to see what time comes off with those fitted too.

No, that's fine - just checking whilst considering committing 8 minutes of my life to watching your vid is all wink

Like most PH'ers, I've seen a few vids of laps of the 'Ring and after you've watched Walter Röhrl et al, well you know...

I'll leave you to it smile

Yeah, you probably won't learn much off a lap in my car.

I just checked Dale and you're still listed on the Ring lap records page on wikipedia but bluetone has a point wink

Fantastic Vid! Worth the 8 minutes.

I particularly liked:

The ring on the bottom bar of you rear roll cage that works to tell you which way the 'G' is pulling.

and

Answering your phone at around 4m40s !?!

So setting up voicemail may net you another 3 seconds.

Very impressed though - it's giving me some inspiration!

We find out on the 19th, Destination Nurburgring - Toyo 888s and EBC Yellows kindly donated to the cause! I can hopefully do a laptime and we'll see how that stacks up in Klasse SP2(T) - 1600cc Turbos in VLN... biggrin

All I can say is WOW! I'm not even remotely brave enough to drive like that which is probably a good thing as I don't have the skills to control the car like that either laugh

I look forward to seeing the next video with the R888s thumbup

Fantastic footage. I am always happy to see regular guys lapping the 'ring in decent times, in an MX5 that is a spectaular time considering what EVO magazines Jethro Bovington spent on getting his M3 to do 8m 25s or whatever.(£20k?) And he paid a Ringmeister to drive it on his behalf!!! There was a thread on the Caterham forum where some tts were dissreepecting a Caterham 7's 7m 45 lap.(!) Apparently most of the guys on that forum can do it faster.....

I for one enjoyed it, this is a car forum for regular blokes after all, not racing drivers.

Dale, get some R888's on it. Grip = overrated, but just do it for a quick time. I think Al's record is a 8.38 BTG with a passenger on R888s and an otherwise standard 1.8NB (albeit with KYB dampers/ FM springs.)

thumbup Great lap, great car.

BTG & full lap not the same thing tho & folks do like to get 'em confused despite the time diference..

Either way a real sub 8 btg is properly quick & Dales mx will be there pretty soon no doubt.

Add about 25 seconds for 140mph car doing a full lap. So that lap in the MX5 there would be 8m50 or so full.

If I can get it down to 8m BTG, then as the Lizard says - it'll be properly quick.

I'm putting 888s on and EBC yellows for Destination Nürburgring and I'll be gunning for a sub-10 minute full VLN lap... I have the 9m55s of a Cooper Works BMW Mini to beat...

  • wonders if £160 worth of 1144's might just have been an epic'ly bad way to spend hard earned*
do you run any bracing other than what comes with the car from factory?
