Yes, its the 3rd day of driving my mk1, and its decided to no longer let me in (or out for that matter) of the drivers door. NOT AMUSED!

Can i get the door card off with door shut, and what do i need to look for? feels like the door opening spring is missing, the handle is very floppy. The lock works fine, but the door wont open.

Help appreciated!!!

So are you writing this from in the car or out of it?

Yes you can get the door card of with the door closed - I had to do this the other week.

Its a pain but its definitly possible.

I started at the top with a spoon handle! - not the best idea but it worked.

I have a spare door handle spring thingy as when i got mine open i found that that wasn't the problem.

If you're still going to the Malton meet tomorrow look out for me and you can have it.

I think the easiest route is to take the drivers seat out. It's only 4 bolts, and a connector if you have headreast speakers. It's probably the spring. Might not even be broken, just come off.

Unlucky mate; if (!) it's any consolation, this is a fairly common problem.

The fix sounds a bit of a faff so good luck smile

i managed to get the card off with a sparco bucket which pushes against the card itself

with the hood and window down it's easy to pop the card off - start from the bottom and from the front - the top slots down onto the door so if you lever it away, i'd imagine you could either bend/snap the slotted part or rip the card from the smoothed top section

i even found i ripped one fitting slightly without the use of those interior tool thingies

Cheers for info guys, i'll put tomorrow to good use to have a good hack at it and report back.

I've only just got back from the Malton meet, Set off at 8a.m., returned home 9p.m.!!!

I may have gone for a slight detour - 280 mile hoon up the coast, over into north yorks and back down to Huddersfield again, with a few stops for pics and nourishment!

Car seemed to get better the more i drove it, roads were mostly clear, and weather was fine (apart from the 10 minute rain shower and 5 minute barrage of hailstones eek)

But yeah it was the White one in the car park with a couple of others

Update,

Everything seems to be where it should be, and the handle has started working again now (temporarily!). Need to grease it up i think, it all looks very dry and creaky in there. Quick spray of WD40 for now, but better solution needed!

Window works well now, grease spray down both runners seemed to do the job, and silicone spray down the rubber on the window A-pillar, and down into the door.

All the above sounds like correct procedure: glad to hear your lock is working smile
