guys
swmbo 2007 1.8 mx5 every morning the brakes stick on.They free off easy enough with a clonk as you drive off, any ideal what causes this issue.

Presume you mean the handbrake.. It's quite common if it's been cold and/or wet and you yank the handbrake on very hard. Or does it do it regardless of any of the above?

Do you park on a hill? If not then just leave it in gear with no handbrake.
I haven't heard of handbrake problems on a Mk3 before though so it could be worth getting it checked out.

^^^^ This.

Esp. if they're configured anything like the Mk1 - rear brakes can be an arse; I only ever use my handbrake for hill starts.

is parked on the drive which is almost flat, it seems to be the handbrake sticking and happens regardless of the weather.
i would leave it in gear and no handbrake, but as it's the wife who drives it 99% of the time you can imagine what would be the result if the car was left in gearsmile mx5 through the bay window lol.

Sounds exactly like my Mk1, i leave it in the (flat) garage with no hand brake on (out of gear) and they still stick. My brake light hasn't switched off in months. It also squeaks and and groans all the time. Thought it may be a sticky caliper, but aparently not. Nor is it warped discs, its a mystery!

Glad it's not just mine...

My suspicion is that it's a lazy caliper. Not that I can be arsed to take it apart to find out...

mine did/does this

when i bought it with mintex 1144's on, after a rainy night every single pad would seize ever so slightly to the discs, resulting in a little clonk as you moved off

seemed to go away when i ran organic greenstuffs, but then, so did the braking efficiency tongue out

i assumed it was because the pads are metallic and seize slightly to the flash rusting on the discs after rain
