Morning All,

I am staggered and offended by Admiral's renewal quote of £500 odd quid, and RAC's £550 quote the other week. Over a 100% increase for no reason. Bearing in mind my premium last year with Admiral was £220 with all the trimmings. I have 3 points and a clean history. 7 Years NCB.

I think they are taking the absolute michael out of me to be honest - after a 10 minute winge on the phone i got it down to £348 odd. Why didnt they just quote sensibly in the first place the f?*ckers! I want to move insurers to save some more money and also out of principle. My partner also on the multicar policy got a stupid quote and a subsequent massive price drop when we phoned them. The bizarre thing is the cheaper quotes with admiral are no longer multicar policies... how does that work???

Anyway - who is good on MX5's this month got to renew within a week.

UK Car thats standard apart from some lowering springs.

Cheers

Steve

I would recommend trying some brokers, such as Adrian Flux, they were able to offer me an excellent quote with a great level of cover for a more reasonable price than my previous insurer, this time round at renewal.

yeah thats my plan at the moment.. the thing that rages me is that i moved to an mx5 for insurance cost savings alongside loving the car itself - my heavily modified nissan 200sx was only £500 fully comp from A-Plan not long ago - so theres no way in hell am i paying £500 for a near on standard UK mx5.

Cheers for the pointer mate smile

Sky insurance just sent me their renewal quote of 501 quid for mine, which is more than they charged me for an import integra type-r. So they can get stuffed!!

Aviva came back best for me - 301 quid, and with 75 quid cashback through topcashback or 45 quid through quidco, it puts mine at 226 quid.

I'm 31 with 6 points and car parked in street, lightly modified eunos 1.8 rs-limited.

Try Richard Eggar: http://www.reis.co.uk/index.php
They done a good deal for my supercharged Eunos & there is the optional trackday cover as well. They also know what you are talking about!

Flux quoted £120 more than current insurer for me.
Have had a quote from Tesco, but couldn't see where to declare lowered suspension.

Adrian Flux were the cheapest for me but as mine is an import I had less choice.

Direct Line for me, cheaper than Adrian Flux!

Easy to get a quick quote on line too.

Another vote for Richard Egger here followed closely by Aplan (Bletchley office)

Flux were best for a Classic policy when i had my MK1 weekend toy but couldn`t compete with the above for my unlimited mileage daily driver Sport.

My best quote which I took was with..... Admiral laugh

£250 fully comp, went up to £280 when I lost my multi car policy discount.

I have tried a couple such as chris knott and direct line and knott couldn't touch admiral and direct line was 344 odd

just looked at the multicar policy and if I split it 2 ways for each car it works out around 270 for the mx5.

Probably gonna stick with that....

I have mine through AON on the club scheme. £350 including all modifications (I supply them with a word document with all mods listed so there can be no argument).

I wouldn't go near Admiral with someone elses stty barge-pole. They might be cheap but try making a claim!

Hello if you do try us (Adrian Flux) make sure you mention that you're a pistonheads member because that can save you up to 15%.

Just changed from Churchill to Aviva - I'm 22 with 4 years NCB protected for £440. Pretty pleased with that!

I'd been using Adrian Flux for 4 years, but have noticed a massive drop in customer service this year although pricing is generally keen.

Tried using the link to quote in the Jaguar section to get cover on my XJ8... was quoted £2,700 (!) and advised that the price is high because AF don't specialise in the vehicle they specialise in imports and modified cars. Not entirely sure how covering a standard UK car can cause such issues.

Rang back a day later and the price mysteriously dropped to £1,750. I'm now covering the MX5 with Admiral and will be moving the Jaguar over to them next year, assuming their pricing is still keen.
