Going back to basics, spark is produced by coil and ignition system. Check the fuel cut-off too maybe? Not sure if that cuts out the ignition too?

Tried the distributor cap/rotor too?

Fuel cut only. No distributor on MX5.

It could be the coils but it could be a number of other things too. Failing coil pack usually results in misfire and/or running on 2 cylinders though that doesn't rule it out. CAS failure would result in no spark too. It's all just guesses though - probably something minor, it usually is.

cas is easy, it's the thing sticking out on the back of the left hand (as you look at the engine from the front) camshaft.

Yes one 12mm bolt holds it in , and i would guess thats whats failed , I fitted the replacement engine in my 5 started it drove it 50 odd miles , parked it up and the next day it was dead ,Also get an led a paper clip and check your diagnostic codes

Have you actually checked for a spark? i.e. Take out a spark plug, put the lead back on it then lay it on the head so the hex of the plug is in contact with the cam cover the turn the engine over to see if there is a spark.
