I have a good quality cone filter in my garage left over from an Iceman induction kit I fitted to my Accord coupe a few years ago.

I have tried it for size and it fits great straight onto the MAS/MAF (the wee box that bolts to the top of the OE airbox).

I am ready to swap it all over, but I do not know what to do with the little temp probe that fits into a rubber grommet on the top half of the OE airbox?

Can I run without this connected?

Do aftermarket kits specifically for the MX come with a fitment for this? I don't see how a K&N 57i caters for it?

Any help gratefully appreciated as I started it up and the induction roar is very nice indeed biggrin

Cheers,
Steven

It's just an ambient air temp sensor. Just tie it up out of the way somewhere near the air filter.

All fitted!

Cable tied the temp sensor close to the filter as advised.

Sounds great on WOT - just need add some ducting for a cold air feed.

biggrin

I was going to say get some ducting for that biggrin

Lazza, you'll know.. Where does the air for the standard box get collected from? I understand its behind the NSF headlamp, but is air ducted there from somewhere?

I was looking at some places you could feed air from but its all abit tight down there.

I saw a kit in Halfords (sorry, just swore) that has a red anodised cone which could fit into the front grille, then have a feed from there, up behind the NSF headlight and up to the filter - assuming there is enough space.

Yeah, the Pipercross comes with a feed like that too.. Halfords do just the feed though.

On my old C2 people put that cone in the foglamp hole, no such luck on these though..

Front grille could work but not sure how you'll get it past the radiator?

why not from the fog light hole ?

I took out the crappy plastic grill that covers the hole for the fog lamp and have run the pipe up from there through the hole in the panel behind the headlight.

Not sure how efficient it is feeding from there though? ive heard half stories about low pressure areas around the car ?? Im sure Lazza will know !!!

You don't. Mk2s didn't have fog lights as an option. They were introduced in the 2001 Mk2.5 facelift wink

Oh good, I was sure I didn't have holes for them scratchchin

Whilst your here Lazza, do you know where the air is drawn from?

Is it likely my cold air feed makes the slightest bit of difference feeding from the fog lamp hole then lazza ? I've read that the best place to feed from is around the scuttle but didnt fancy paying the price of the proper item / havent quite figured out how to make (bodge) my own yet !!

I have foglight holes biggrin

They are filled with foglight frown

the K&N 57i fitting instructions pdf (from their website) shows an air feed being poked out a little trapdoor/hinge in the plastic sump guard.

i still think I can get something from the mesh grille, right behind the nsf headlight and up to the filter - will investigate when I get time.

Mk1s (and probably Mk2s) draw from just under the wing so I guess that's the coolest spot it can reach. I don't think anywhere under the bonnet is particularly cool though as there is nothing trying to draw cool air into the engine bay.

Mk2.5 has a hole in the wing that draws cool air in from the wheel arch so I've boxed my air filter in over that hole. Drawing more air in from the fog-light hole if you have one probably helps.

For Mk1 & Mk2 it's just a matter of getting air in however you can but it's not as simple as you might expect. A moving car has high & low pressure air spots all over them and not always where you would expect (headlight cover vents on Mk1s are supposed to be in a low pressure area for instance so in theory actually draw air out rather than suck it in. Whether that's what actually happens I have no idea.

To be honest though, unless you have FI (in which case you want as cold air as possible) then it probably makes very little difference anyway.
