After a year of keeping it all standard, a mod friendly insurance policy (REIS) is in place and Project-Making-My-'94-Eunos-1.8-Better-For-Track-Use-Without-Spending-Silly-Money begins.

The most important mod has already been done and I'm enjoying the extra 25-30bhp my shiny new K&N is giving me wink (well, it does sound better...).

Next I'm thinking about changing the 14" 'daisy' wheels for 15s, mostly to get the sidewall size down to improve turn-in but also because the tyre range is better and if they improve looks that's a bonus.

I've seen these and wonder what people think:

http://www.alloywheels.com/product.asp?P_ID=2338&a...

Is the size and in particular the offset (et35) OK for a Mk1 Eunos? I've read a lot about the wrong offset causing all sorts of problems with handling and premature wear of suspension components.

If anyone has pics of these on an MX5/Eunos I'd love to see them!

Alternatively, if you can recommend something similar please let me know.

After this I'm looking at a TR Lane roll bar and then Gaz Gold Pros from WIM (had a very useful chat with Tony on Friday), then I should be in pretty good shape smile

See if you can get ET25. That's what the Ma5da racers have on their Pro Race 2s and also what I have on mine and the car drives really well with them.

Looks like the only 4x100 offset option is 35. Is this somehow worse than the 25 you suggest? My understanding is that the recommended range is 35-45mm, but I could well be wrong!

There have been a few other threads on wheel sizes/offsets lately which you might be able to find browsing through even if PH's useless search engine can't find them.

I had 15x7 ET35 on my old MX5 and while you could feel a slight difference (more tramlining and a slight change in scrub as you get close to full lock) it was never something to worry about, it was still a better drive on the 15" than the original 14".

Thanks GravelBen; I'm probably being a bit thick here but what does 'a slight change in scrub' mean?

Its probably not the best way of describing it, but in practice just before full lock the steering would change weight and become much lighter (to the point of being easier to further increase than decrease lock) - it was noticeable at low speed and I only noticed it with those wheels so to my (basic)understanding it seemed that rather than a dynamic effect involving loadings it was probably resulting from a change in scrub radius.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrub_radius

It was never a problem though - the only times you're usually that close to full lock are at very low speed maneuvering (when it doesn't matter) or when you're extremely sideways, where it didn't seem to make much (if any) difference.

I have to say, the Mk1 handles better on 14" than 15" wheels. The only reason for swapping really is the better tyre choice that's available

Interesting comment, given that the consensus seems to be that 15" is the optimal choice for handling on the Mk1. Care to explain?

I agree, the ride might be better on 14" due to taller sidewalls, but if anything the handling should be better on 15"s.

ET35 is perfectly fine, stock is ET45 so it's quite close to the standard wheels which means you'll have no problems in scrub radius etc caused by excessive offset.

as for the pro race, i haven't used them myself but they are meant to be pretty good wheels.

It's looking like these might well be the bad boys for me!

Has anyone got any comments on the quality of Team Dynamics wheels? Just that I read some negative feedback on the Nutz site about the casting and the paint finish.

Came across this thread whilst searching for these wheels. Anyone running with these on their mx5?

I was looking at fitting thee to my MK1 and was told that it was possible to get them in an ET25 offset. Supplier said that they would just take the blank and machine in the offset I wanted ??

Just noticed my thread pop up from the past and thought I should give an update.

In the end I went for the TD Pro Race 1.2s. Here they are on the car...

I think they look pretty good in a sort of racey way cool Annoying thing is that I can't for the life of me remember what the offset is, sorry! frown

After 2 years on the car they are still in good nick, although if I take them off I can see bubbling on the backside of the spokes. The paint is clearly much thinner on the back so I'm hopeful that the front side will be OK for a while yet.

Just checked the website and they are 17" way too big IMO for a 5 15" max!
