Just thought i'd share my delight at getting absolutely soaked with the roof down on my way home from work this evening. Set off in sunny Shipley, dropped my mate off in Bradford, the clouds are rolling in. Lets gamble, i thought to myself, the clouds looking rather dark where im headed.

Set off from drop off point, 2 mins later, traffic, heavy rain, what the hell, lets get wet, was too warm with roof up!!

Got loads of mad looks and a few pics/videos taken on phones from dry boring cars, about 30 mins later i arrive home just in time for the sun to return. Damage, wet head, shoulders and right arm, and face from my grin, and water in the eyes.

I fully recommend it! driving

Yeah I've been caught out by a 'gamble' before as well!
Had the windscreen wipers on full whack as it was a proper cloudburst.

I think people may have thought I was deranged, but I was careful to judge roundabouts so I could maintain momentum! Not that much water came in...!

What's all this Pulling over malarky ?

I find speeds over 30mph and you stay more or less dry, but even so, Slow down to Circa 45mph and I can / do Put the roof up whilst driving along.

Have always wondered what Plods view on that would be though?
I can't, but have thought of it.

Surely when driving at that speed the roof acts as a massive sail and drags it quite abit?

I haven't got the balls to try driving with the roof down in the rain, but I bet it's fun frown How wet does the interior get?

Above 30-40mph, not at all.

The windblocker may get slightly damp but not much.

Though if you do slow down, you do get wet hehe

Nutters biggrin

It's stopping that I'm worried about!

Fortunately my office carpark is mostly underground so I wouldn't ever come back to a bathtub parked where my car used to be hehe

I was sat in traffic doing approx 5mph whilst it was 'tonking it down', for about 10-15 mins, hence the drenched bit, but still only head shoulders and arm, strangely!

I put my coat over the passenger seat to protect the headrest speakers, the rest of the car wasnt too soggy at all.

I've no chance of putting roof up whilst driving because
a. its a really stiff frame
b. im a weed
c. plastic window zipping in is another challenge all together!

When you do put the roof up (when you reach your destination in glorious sunshine...) it will make your interior wet unless you wipe it first (note to self, thoroughly wipe roof next time i get rained on).

Now that MUST get you some funny looks. I've been caught out a couple of times when she's been parked outside. It's surprising how quickly everything dries out.

I must buy a brolly!

Saw a couple driving down to le mans in 2007 in a 1930's open top car, 2 brollies, waterproof jackets, torrential rain, epic effort. Worst rain I ever seen, road = river. Mucho respect the them, never forget it!

I keep an automatic brolly (i.e. push button I goes up, push button it goes down) within easy reach in the car for exactly that reason. Last time I used it was driving home from Scotland on the A43 forgetting it wad British GP day. It started raining just as the traffic stopped near the Silverstone turning. It was funny to see people laughing at me sitting in my car dry under my brolly when they were walking along getting soaked!

Its easy enough, like I say, drop the speed to about 45ish, take the windows down so it acts less of a sail if you get my drift.
I have a MK1 and obviously it used to have a Zip rear window so definitely less effort, but then the buggeration of having to zip that up after / later.

I now have Glass and hence a complete roof, but still seems ok to do it.
Doesn't work if you have a rollbar fitted banghead

I call it the drench test!

Every young lady who I happen to be seeing, I subject them to roof down in the rain, if she loves it, she's a keeper! hehe

The best one so far was torrential rain when heading up to birmingham...It thinned out a bit on the M42 & I kept bugging her to put the roof down, she eventually was persuaded...For the next 30 min it was wipers full pelt, rain streaming past, flying past everyone dawdling along, intense sunset in front of us, shades on & a huge rainbow behind us.

She won't forget that drive in a hurry hehethumbup

Although my weather predicting skills have dramatically improved since owning a soft-top, I still get caught out on the 25 minute journey to work. Surprisingly though, I've never arrived very wet despite the last few minutes always being in crawling traffic.

One thing that does help is a cap. I really don't mind the rain but it's a bit annoying when you're going quite slowly, and it hits you in the face because it makes you blink and flinch a lot. It must look like I'm having some sort of seizure.

To be honest I quite like seeing the smiles on people's faces. One morning as I crawled towards a roundabout in the rain, a couple of blokes in a van went past once, then when I'd caught them up again they held up a sign saying, "are you getting wet?". biggrin

Another time a car full of young girls started chatting to me, curious as to why I didn't pull over to put the roof up smile
