Jack smiths Trimmers
Discussion
Hi folks,
Want to get a new roof fitted on my roadster and have looked at a few options, I am not blessed with alot of patience so I think getting someone to fit it for me is the best option. One of the stickies reccomends Jack Smiths Trimmers and I have read some excellent old reviews on other sites. Has anyone used them recently? Are they still providing a good service?
Also from all the reviews I read it seems everyone is getting mohair roofs fitted is this all they supply? Are there any real advantages or disadvatages to mohair over vinyl?
Any advice very gratefully recieved.

I went down and had mine fitted June '09 and very pleased with it. Regarding advantages / disadvantages well for the price I think it's a bit of a bargain compared to other prices being quoted. The mohair just looks a lot better than the standard vinyl, I don't think there are any disadvantages to be honest. I will post pictures up tonight when I get in. Also the A4069 over the Brecon Beacons is not far away for a hoon after!!

Had mine replaced in June this year and am very happy with the product, price and service.
The owner (didn't catch his name, but I believe Jack Smith was his dad?) is very friendly and hilarious - has a very similar manner to Rob Brydon's character in Gavin & Stacey.
If it's a nice day, get yourself down to the beach whilst they fit it. It's only a 10 minute walk and is one of the nicest beaches I've been on in the UK.
As for mohair vs vinyl, mohair looks better and tends to last slightly longer I hear. Also, vinyl can be stiff in the winter when it's cold and more likely to crack if not warmed up before folding.
There are some cracking roads nearby too - the road up to Brecon is well worth the slight detour. Just watch out for the sheep!

Sorry about the delay in uploading these pictures.
Anyway, I got to Jack Smiths on Saturday and the original seats in the car looked like this.

This was the drivers side, showing the wear on the side bolster and the patched up base.

The passenger side seat was original and in better condition, but sill looked a bit worse for wear after 21 years of sun beating down on it!
After 3 hours of wandering around Swansea marina, I returned to find these beauties!

I am over the moon with the results.
The seats are now much more comfortable, so I am guessing the boys added some new foam.
The total cost was £250.
Just to show any of you thinking about a Jack Smith mohair hood, I had one fitted in October 2006. Again I was and still am very pleased with the product. This is what it looks like after almost 4 years on the car

I can't reccomend Jack Smiths enough. They were brilliant for £260.00 fitted.
I got a green mohair hood fitted, arrived at about 12.30 and they said it should be done by 4ish. Got a call at 2.30 saying it was done!

Has a couple of annoying marks/scuff marks on but I cant do anything about these, and they weren't JS's fault so it doesn't bother me!
