Self fixing bumper

Last week I came back to the car to find some idiot () hadn't put his handbrake on properly and rolled into the Freelander in front. Luckily it hit the towball of the FL so no damage but put a nice round dent in the front of the '5s bumper.

Went to show someone the dent to see about pushing it back into place on Tuesday only to find there wasn't a trace of a bump! What are the bumpers made from to do that? In contrast you breathe on mums Mondeo and the whole bumper shatter!
